Aiden Stevenson, 5, asks his parents if he looks "normal" after being bitten in the face by a pit bull.
It happened last week when Aiden was visiting his grandmother in Monroe. He was playing with neighbors in their backyard when one of their 3 pit bulls attacked.
After two surgeries to mend his broken jaw, Aiden is scared of going back to his grandmothers.
"From what I've talked to people, they have told me they almost feel like they have to walk around with a gun on their side to protect themselves from these animals," says Aiden's father Joe Stevenson.
After a dog attacks and is brought to animal control, the owners can reclaim the dog, but according to animal control officers, most owners don't want the dog back. Owner of the dog involved, Chelsea Carter wants her dog back, and has even visited the animal a few days after the incident.
"It was behind a enclosed secure place by being behind the fence and it was on the chain," says Hack Tull, Director of Ouachita Parish Animal Control, "you can't ask for an owner to secure a dog anymore than that."
No state, or Ouachita Parish laws were violated because the dog was on private property.
"On a dog bite, first time, if the dog is off the property, usually we issue a summons," says Tull.
Animal control says if the dog attacks again, the owners will be brought to court and a judge will decide the dog's fate. Animal control says this isn't the first time they've had issues with these dogs, calls have come in before about the animals breaking their chains and running loose in the Lakewood Estates neighborhood.
