Dog to be euthanized after New Germany girl bitten

CANADA -- A five-year-old New Germany girl was rushed to the IWK Health Centre on Wednesday afternoon with severe facial injuries after she was bitten by a pit bull.

[Another report listed the dog as a pit bull Labrador mix.]

The girl’s wounds are serious, but not life-threatening, RCMP Sgt. Alain LeBlanc said. He couldn’t say exactly what prompted the attack or how long it lasted.

“There’s no indication (it was provoked) and we feel pretty confident there was no negligence on the part of the homeowner,” he said.

LeBlanc said he did not expect police would lay any charges.

Lunenburg County animal control officers seized the dog after its owner called police at about 4 p.m. The woman has asked that the animal be destroyed.

LeBlanc could not say whether the little girl was bitten in her own home or whether she was visiting another house.
