Family wants answers after elderly N.Ky. woman attacked by neighbors dog

KENTUCKY -- An elderly woman is still recovering after she was attacked by a dog near her Elsmere, Ky. home on Tuesday.

Mary Ellen Edison, 76, didn’t think she’d be alive to tell her story after she says she was mauled by a Bull Mastiff that lives at her neighbor’s home across the street.

"He had my throat,” Edison said. “He came over me, up to his chest, and his front legs was on me, and he had me right in the neck. I wasn't doing anything."

Edison’s wounds from the attack are now covered in stitches and bandages. She says she’s still weak from the attack.

"I just walked over to the fence to ask Kathy (her neighbor) how Toby was, the other dog, and that big dog came up along side of her."

Edison says a man working construction at a house nearby saved her life.

“He absolutely saved my life because that dog meant to kill me."

After stopping the attack, he carried Edison and her Boston terrier back to her house.

Edison’s family says this isn’t the first time the neighbor's dog has attacked a person. They say one of her neighbors was been bitten by the same dog

The woman's family says they want something to be done.

"Train your dogs and if you have a vicious animal realize that and deal with it properly,” said Edison’s niece, Kimberly Cross. “Don't let this happen to anyone else."

Edison’s family says they’ve talked to animal control. Right now, the dog’s owners, whose names have not been released, have to keep the dog in their house or on a leash for the next 10 days.

The case will eventually be heard before a judge.
