Girl, 5, hospitalized after attack at home

CANADA -- A five-year-old girl has undergone surgery to repair lacerations to her face after being attacked by a dog at a home in New Germany, N.S.

LunenburgCounty RCMPresponded to the home around 4 p.m. yesterday after receiving a 911 call from the homeowner, who said her 18-month-old mixed-breed dog (earlier described as a pit bull mix) had attacked the girl.

The girl, who suffered serious facial injuries in the attack, was transported to the IWK Health Centre by ambulance.

The dog has been seized by Lunenburg County Animal Control and will be put down, at the owner’s request.

Police are still investigating, but don’t expect to lay charges.
