Officers Shoot Dog After Boy Attacked in Hastings

NEBRASKA --  Hastings police shot a dog Monday morning, after it attacked a boy and charged at a police officer.

Sgt. Bill Mann said a 13-year-old boy was on his way to school when he was attacked. The boy suffered a scratch on his arm. Mann said the injury appeared to be minor.

The boy was getting out of a car, in the 1700 block of West Eighth Street.

Police were called at 7:58 a.m. Sgt. Mann said the dog charged the officer who responded, so the officer fired his weapon to stop the dog.

The dog survived, but was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment. The dog will also be observed for rabies.
