NEW YORK -- Investigators from the Ontario County Humane Society said the little girl, 8 year old Alcondria Campbell, was staying at her grandmothers house in Geneva, when she was bitten.
She told investigators she was walking upstairs to get her coat, when the dog attacked her from behind.
The girl told investigators, "He came up from behind me and grabbed my left ankle and bit me 18 times... He just kept biting me."
The girl suffered puncture wounds on her leg and a cracked tibia.
She was released from the hospital Wednesday.
Investigators said the dog, a one and a half year old pit bull named King, will be euthanized. This isn't the first time the dog has bitten someone.
In fact, the young girl told police King bit another child a few days ago and she too, was hospitalized.
There is also a report he bit someone else last fall, but these attacks were not reported.
The owner of the dog surrendered him to investigators and admitted this wasn't the first time the dog has bitten someone.
Investigator Bill McGuigan, Deputy Director of Law Enforcement for the Ontario County Humane Society said attacks like this can be traumatic for anyone, but especially children.
"It can affect a child. You could be afraid of dogs for the rest of your life" he said.
