CALIFORNIA -- A 74-year-old Colton woman underwent surgery for severe head wounds she suffered when she was attacked by the family pit bull that later charged police, who shot it dead, investigators say.
Margarita Negrete was in critical condition following the attack at 5:47 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in the 500 block of West N Street, just east of Slover Mountain.
Officers were summoned because of the dog attack. When they arrived, they found the animal in the backyard.
“The pit bull had already killed one of the family dogs and now had the victim on the ground biting her,” police said in a written statement.
“Officers moved in, attempting to get the victim away from the dog when the pit bull came after the officers,” police wrote. “The pit bull was shot and killed.”
