Pit bulls seized after attacking and killing poodle

TEXAS -- Two pit bulls were seized after they fatally mauled a smaller stray dog in Chambers County, authorities said.

The attack happened just before 1pm Saturday at a home in the 10600 block of Pine Meadows Blvd, according to the Chambers County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy was called out to the home to investigate a report of an animal fight, and when he arrived, he found caught two pit bulls attacking a smaller black poodle.

The deputy managed to scare the dogs back into their back yard but it was too late. The poodle had died.

Detectives determined the dogs had chewed and dug holes under the fence and the gate area so it was easy for them to escape.

Neighbors said the dogs have repeatedly escaped from the back yard and they've asked their owners to take the necessary measures to lock them up.

A Chambers County Animal Control officer was forced to tranquilize both pit bulls and place them in custody at the Chambers County Kennel facility.
