Woman’s Family Looking for Answers after Deadly Dog Attack

CALIFORNIA -- Family of Claudia Gallardo say she was not the type of person to jump a fence and enter the area where she was fatally attacked by a Pit Bull.

“I really miss her a lot. She was a very caring person. She would do anything for you,” said her brother, Mario Gallardo.

Claudia, a mother of three, was killed Thursday night by a Pit Bull when San Joaquin County detectives say she entered a Stockton property.

“When I heard this morning this Pit Bull took her life away really devastated me,” said Gallardo.

The dog’s owner, Brian Hrenko, says he and Gallardo had spoken briefly about her possibly cleaning houses which could have been why she stopped by, but Hrenko was not there the night she was killed.

Claudia’s family says Hrenko’s story keeps changing.

“He told a reporter the dog knew her so why would he turn on her,” said Gallardo.

Detectives say a neighbor heard Claudia yelling or help.

He tried using a stick to get the dog off, but once the dog bit her neck it was too late.

As Claudia’s family looks for answers they say they’re thankful their loved one is in a better place.

“I love her and I wish I could spend one last moment with her,” said Gallardo.

Detectives are still investigating her death.
