911 calls released in Palatka dog attack

FLORIDA -- Deputies have identified the victim in a vicious dog attack.

Tommie Lee Bennett, 60, is still recovering.



The Putnam County Sheriff's Office responded Monday to 131 East Towles Road in reference to the report of a person being severely bitten by a dog.


Police say a 911 caller found Bennett slumped over on the side of the road and that he appeared to be trying to flag her down. She stayed with the victim until rescue units arrived.

Bennett was transported by ground to Putnam Community Medical Center and then taken by helicopter to UF & Shands Hospital in Gainesville with severe injuries to his head and scalp.


Shortly thereafter, Sheriff's Deputies and Animal Control Officers' captured a Rottweiler roaming loose. Family members say the dog belongs to Bennett. The dog was euthanized this morning.
