CALIFORNIA -- Stanislaus County Sheriff's deputies responding to a report of shots fired and yelling shot and killed a dog, authorities confirmed Friday.
A relative of Alisza Williams, 34, disputed deputies' version of the events of early Thursday. Authorities said they were called to the Seattle Street home at 4:15 because someone heard gunshots and someone yelling.
The relative, who did not want his name published, said there was an argument at the home but no shooting. The relative said the first shots heard were deputies shooting at the family dog, a pit bull.
Deputy Royjindar Singh confirmed deputies shot the dog, but said they had to when it charged at them. While deputies were outside, Singh said, someone from inside the house fired a shot at them.
Williams was arrested on suspicion of firing a gun.
The relative said that Williams did not fire a gun and that deputies did not find any firearms at the house.
Singh said two guns were recovered.
He said it's standard for deputies to test suspects' hands for gunshot residue to see if they have fired a gun recently, but he couldn't say for sure if that was done in this case.
