Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service rescues dog stuck in wall at Portchester

UNITED KINGDOM -- This puppy got a ‘hole’ lot more than she bargained for on her walk.
Eight-month-old Lexi had to be rescued after she got her head stuck in a decorative wall.

The drama unfolded when the field cocker spaniel was out on a walk with owner Vicky Lovelock in White Hart Lane, Portchester.

“I was walking Lexi and she was on the lead,” said Vicky, 37, from Portchester. “She must have smelt or seen something which drew her attention enough to poke her head through a wall.”

Householders came out to help when they realised the situation and despite their efforts to get her free by rubbing baby oil on her neck, Lexi would not budge.

So Vicky had to call in the fire service, and Hampshire Fire and Rescue sent Anton Phillips, its animal rescue specialist, who gave advice en-route.

“It’s important in this type of incident to keep the trapped animal as quiet as possible to give it the best possible chance,” he said.

“I asked Vicky to hold the dog firmly whilst I released Lexi by using a hammer and chisel gently to crack the wall.

"Lexi was released unharmed.”
