6/3/13: SPCA seizes emaciated horses, dog from property in rural Waxahachie

TEXAS -- The SPCA of Texas seized seven neglected horses and a dog from an Ellis County property this morning.

The animals did not have access to adequate food or water on the land in the 2000 block of Forreston Road in rural Waxahachie, and the dog lacked proper shelter and needed medical attention, according to the agency.

Four of the horses were so thin that their vertebrae, ribs and other bones were visible through their skin. The dog suffered from several health problems, including hair loss.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Department concurred that they should be removed due to neglect.

The animals are being cared for at the Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney, where they will remain until a custody hearing Thursday.

Their placement will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
