6/8/13: Two charged in Dare Co. with animal cruelty

NORTH CAROLINA -- Two people in Dare County have been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly starving their dog to death.

Police found the dog with no food and little water at an East Lake Community home. Police say 23-year-old Shawna Beale and 32-year-old Richard Tillett Jr. had moved out of the home at least three weeks earlier, apparently leaving the dog behind.

Authorities say the dog was taken to a veterinarian for a necropsy and it was determined the most likely cause of death was starvation.

Beale and Tillett were both released on bond.
