Appeal over dog mauled to death in Manchester street

UNITED KINGDOM -- Police are trying to trace a dog and its owner after a Yorkshire Terrier was mauled to death in a Manchester street.

Stephanie Hopwood, 24, from Sandbach, saw her 18-month-old pet, Daisy, attacked by a dog that was not on a lead in Spinningfields.

Someone must know this coward with his killer dog

A man with the Akita-type dog put it back on a lead and walked off after the attack on 6 May, police said.

Police have released a photograph taken at the scene by Ms Hopwood in a bid to identify the dog and its owner.

Daisy was put down hours after the attack.

PC Gavin Johnson said: "This poor dog was mauled to death in front of both the owner and shocked onlookers.

"I have absolutely no doubt that anyone who saw this would have been horrified and, no doubt, the image would have stayed with them.

"We have taken the decision to release these photos as we want the public's help to identify this man and his dog."

Isn't the UK one of the countries which won't do anything
unless a human has been bitten?

He said the larger dog was "off the lead and clearly out of control."

He added: "As tragic as Daisy's demise is, what troubles us even more is how would this dog react to other dogs or even small children."
