Girl suffers serious injuries in Edenville Township dog attack

MICHIGAN -- A 4-year-old girl suffered serious injuries when she was attacked by a 14-year-old dog at an Edenville Township home Tuesday.

The Midland County Sheriff’s Office report states the attack occurred at a West Telegraph Road home at 9 p.m. It was reported to deputies at the MidMichigan Medical Center - Midland Emergency Room.

The girl’s mother said the child tripped over the dog, which was lying on the living room floor. The startled animal bit the girl on the back of her head and on her face, and was pulled off by its owner.

The child suffered deep cuts to the back of her head and superficial cuts on her face.

The dog’s owner said the dog, which is a blind and deaf pit bill/mastiff mix, had bitten a 21-month-old child on June 1. He was keeping the dog during the 10-day isolation period then planned to have it euthanized.

The animal control deputy confiscated the dog on June 5, and it is being held by the Humane Society.

Reports on the incident have been sent to the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office and the Department of Human Services for review.
