Justin Parker hailed a hero after grabbing dog during attack in Boronia

AUSTRALIA -- Boronia's Justin Parker is being hailed a hero after he took on a pack of vicious dogs to save a woman and her little pup from being further mauled.

Mr Parker grabbed the savage dog by the scruff of its neck as it attacked a terrified Michelle Morales and her eight-month-old cavoodle Alfie, all the while keeping two other vicious dogs at bay.

The drama unfolded after the Rangeview Rd resident heard hysterical cries for help at 8.30am on June 9, and instantly rushed out to help Boronia resident Ms Morales and Alfie, who were being attacked by a pack of Staffordshire bull terriers outside his home.

Mr Parker told Leader he ran out to the road to see Ms Morales lying on the grass on the nature strip, with the savage dog's jaws locked on to little Alfie.

"She couldn't free her dog from the jaws of the Staffie," Mr Parker said.

"... I waited until the dog went for a bigger bite and I got him off."

He said Ms Morales, who had puncture wounds on her arm, was very brave.

While Ms Morales still cannot use her right hand, Alfie was her main concern.

"At the time I thought, go for me, don't go for my boy," she said. Alfie underwent surgery that afternoon for muscle damage and is recovering at home.

Ms Morales and Alfie were the first victims of the dogs that escaped from a back garden in The Basin.

The pack then went on to attack a second victim and her pet pug outside the Boronia Veterinary Clinic.

The Boronia woman, in her 40s, was taken to the Maroondah Hospital with severe wounds to a hand.
Knox Council City Development director Angelo Kourambas said one of the three dogs was euthanased the same afternoon with the consent of the owner.

He said the other two dogs were transported to the RSPCA and will stay there while the council continues its investigation.

Mr Kourambas said the three dogs were wandering around the streets unsupervised and without collars or registration tags.
