SPCA: 5 puppies left to die in dumpster

NEW YORK -- The York County SPCA is investigating an incident where five puppies were left to die in a trash dumpster.

The puppies had been placed into a plastic bag before they were tossed in the dumpster on E. 4th Avenue in North York last week, according to SPCA executive director Melissa Smith.

Smith said a passerby heard the cries of the puppies and removed them from the dumpster.

She said the legs of all five puppies had apparently had been chewed off by the mother or another dog, and all had to be euthanized.

Smith said the SPCA is looking for information on where the puppies came from and who left them in the dumpster to suffer and die.

She said the puppies had been born recently and still had umbilical cords attached.

Anyone with information is asked to call the York County SPCA at 717-764-6109 ext. 127.
