Animal Control Workers, Firemen Rescue Horse

NORTH CAROLINA -- Johnston County Animal Services workers and local firefighters rescued a horse Wednesday morning.

The horse named “Bob” was in a pasture on Haven Lane in eastern Johnston County when it was apparently startled by another animal Tuesday night and ran into a mud-filled ditch.  Bob’s owner found the horse lying on its side and stuck in the deep mud Wednesday morning and called for assistance.

Using straps made out of fire hoses, firemen from the Brogden and Princeton fire departments along with county animal control officers were able to get Bob out of his sticky situation within two hours.

Animal Services Director Ernie Wilkinson said a large animal technical rescue team, NC SMART (NC Specialized Mobile Animal Rescue Team) based out of Cumberland County was put on standby but never responded to the scene.

As for Bob, he was tired and will be check out by a veterinarian, but he is expected to be just fine, thanks to the firemen and animal control employees.
