Dog Allowed To Stay On Property After Attack

ALABAMA -- Melissa Harrison sits at home in a recliner Friday afternoon, one day after she was viciously attacked by a pit bull. The dog broke free from it's chain and latched on to her right calf muscle.

"I'm scared still, a lot," said Harrison.

She's still in shock. Her leg has a softball-sized bruise and it's swollen. To make matters worse, the dog that attacked her is still living on the property with it's owner.

No one came to the door when we showed up Friday afternoon, and we weren't the only visitors.

Turns out animal control had already stopped by the home and left a note on the door stating that the dog must be quarantined by Monday. In reality, though, we found out it may be even longer before the pit bull ever leaves the property.

"We made contact with the individual today and she advised us that she has talked to the vet and the vet doesn't have any room at this time and that they'd have room on Tuesday," said the county's humane officer.

Animal control says the owner is aware that she has to keep the dog inside the home and away from the public until a vet check it out.
