That's because one of the dogs is now in Lee County Animal Control's custody.
The eight-year-old boy was riding his bike on Tina's Lane in rural Lee County when the dogs ran out from under a neighbor's fence and attacked him.
"We have taken one dog off the property that was involved, that we believe was involved in this incident," Animal Control Operations Manager Glenn Johnson said.
But that wasn't an easy task.
Animal Control can't take a dog off a property until they are sure it was involved in an attack. And in this case, the dog owner had more than one dog that matched the victim's description.
And to make matters even worse, Animal Control had a hard time getting in contact with the owner. But that changed last night, when she finally cooperated.
"She identified the dog that was involved and it matched the description of what we had of one of the dogs," Johnson said.
The victim's family, who doesn't want to be identified for fear of retaliation, told Fox 4 they are happy one of the dogs is in custody, but want to make sure the second dog is also taken off the property.
When we asked Johnson if he can go back and look at the other dogs, he said "the investigation is ongoing and if there is another dog it will be based on information that we obtain while we still investigate.
The family said they plan on bringing the young boy to Animal Control later this week to look at photographs of the dogs and hopefully identify the second dog.
Meanwhile, the other dog will remain at Animal Control until the investigation is finished. It is then up to the county attorney to decide if the dog should be considered dangerous.
