RHODE ISLAND -- Lisa Furtado remembers the animal that attacked her dog Cody last week almost ending his life, "it looked like a pit bull to me; mostly white with black spots."
Lisa and Cody encountered this other dog out of the blue; one moment they were walking, and the next moment this dog was running at them, unleashed, ready to pounce.
It was an attack that left both Lisa and Cody injured as the brave owner tried to protect her dog.
When the brutal attack was over Lisa had suffered an injury to her arm and a course of rabies treatments that she is still currently undergoing.
Cody, meanwhile, a Maltese/Chihuahua mix suffered much worse, including torn muscles in his stomach and multiple puncture wounds, and treatment for these types of injuries can become very expense fast; just these procedures that have been done so far cost close to $1,400.
Lisa's husband Tony Furtado says the family had never seen that dog before even though the attack happened just a block from their home. The family has taken steps to try to find the owner of their vicious attacker by filing a police report, and have even contacted local government seeking stricter laws to keep people safe from animals.
The family says the attack could have had even worse consequences; their 10 year old son TJ was supposed to walk Cody, but mom Lisa ended up doing it at the last minute.
The man who was with the dog, and ended up wrestling it away from Lisa and Cody is described as possibly in his mid-30s with dark hair, a dark complexion, and was average height with a medium build.
If anyone has information about whose dog this may be they are asked to please contact Fall River Police.
