UNITED KINGDOM -- A distraught pet owner has called for action after her kitten was killed by a dog in Shoreham.
But Sussex Police says, despite enquiries, there is no evidence of any criminal offence having been committed.
The 14-week-old kitten, called Monk, was attacked by a Jack Russell on Friday and suffered a heart attack as a result.
Owner Ruth White, of John Street, said: “I want action taken.
“Sadly, my cat does not have a voice and this is where it is so terribly important for other cat owners in the area to be aware of this story, as I would like to prevent the sorrow of the loss of our dear cat having to be suffered by others.”
Ruth, who had not had the kitten for long, said she first learned her pet was killed when she was trying to trace it and was told by the dog’s owner what had happened.
Monk had been taken to Shoreham Veterinary Clinic, in High Street, by the dog owner.
“I was told that Monk was alive when taken to the vets but the vets confirm he had already suffered a heart attack due to the dog attack,” said Ruth.
“Nothing has happened about the dog and this is why the matter has been reported to the police.”
Ruth was also concerned for the safety of two other cats which had gone missing in the area in the last two months.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We were informed on Friday evening that a cat had been killed at an address in John Street, Shoreham, allegedly by a dog. Enquiries have been made and there is no evidence of any criminal offence having been committed.”
