SOUTH CAROLINA -- Richland County deputies have arrested a man they say shot his own dog.
Officers charged 25-year-old Robert Bobby Williams with felony ill treatment to animals.
Around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy heard gunshots in the Whispering Pines Road area. Officers say they saw Wilson speeding away from the scene in a car and pulled him over. Moments later, officers say they saw a dog come out of the woods with a gunshot wound.
Deputies determined that Wilson took the dog to Whispering Pines Road, shot the animal, and left him to die. Officers say Wilson told them he shot the dog because he was upset that the animal had attacked another of his dogs.
The injured dog later had to be euthanized because of his injuries.
Sheriff Leon Lott says people who no longer want to care for their pet can always take the animal to the City of Columbia Animal Shelter, located at 127 Humane Lane.
