OHIO -- The Lakewood man accused of fatally stabbing an Amherst family's dog in March pleaded no contest to cruelty against a companion animal and was sentenced July 18 in Oberlin Municipal Court to 120 days in jail, with work release, and five years of probation.
Gerald Miller, 44, must also receive psychological counseling and pay $350 in restitution and the maximum $1,000 fine.
Witnesses told police that Miller stabbed the dog when it barked at him and his dog and daughter as they walked in front of the dog's home.
