OHIO -- A mixed-breed wolf shot by a police officer during a pursuit through backyards early Tuesday died of its injuries.
A Riverside police officer was running information on two juveniles he had stopped when one of the teens, who had an outstanding warrant, fled from the scene on foot, said police.
Officers from Huber Heights, MetroParks and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base were called in as back up to help locate the individual.
During the pursuit, a Riverside officer hopped a fence into the backyard of a home on Norman Boulevard where he saw the teen enter. When the officer looked up he was face-to-face with a wolf, according to police.
The officer said he had no choice but to shoot after the animal lunged at him.
The juvenile-on-the-run, a 14-year-old male, was found hiding under a van in the back of the property. He was taken in to custody and was transported to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center.
