NEBRASKA -- A three-year-old girl is recovering at home, after she was bit in the abdomen by a pit bull.
"The dog just flipped, and didn't know what to do," said Jacob Andretti.
Jacob Andretti’s daughter Audryanna was playing with the dog, which belongs to a family friend.
She made one sudden movement, and he attacked.
"I was the one to rush out of the house,” said Andretti. “I got to the aftermath."
Andretti was inside when it happened, but his girlfriend and a close friend witnessed the scary situation.
"It was like I was shocked,” said the close friend. “I grabbed a hold of Audryanna, and I had to choke
the dog."
After separating the dog from the girl, they rushed her to Bryan West where she had a cat scan and surgery on her abdomen to check for internal bleeding.
She cleared the examination, and doctors stitched her up and sent her home.
"It could have been way worse,” said Andretti. “The dog could have picked her up and just started completely shaking her."
Although no one could have predicted it would happen, he says those involved will definitely learn from the experience.
"It was a bad call on me and the mother's part,” he said, “but it's something we have to live with now. It's just another hump in the road that we got to get over."
