Vista deputy shoots pit bull in back yard

CALIFORNIA -- A sheriff’s deputy fired at a charging pit bull, wounding it, in the animal’s back yard in Vista Tuesday night, authorities said.

Deputies were surrounding a home on West Los Angeles Drive, the last known address of a man believed to be in violation of his probation, sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Menzies said. He said it is the home of the probationer’s parents.

Two deputies entered the back yard and were charged by two pit bulls, Menzies said. He said one deputy shot one of the dogs.

County animal control took the wounded dog for veterinary care. The man deputies were looking for was not at the home, Menzies said.
