Woman attacked by friend's pit bull

"It grabbed her by the neck and shook her"

CALIFORNIA -- A woman is in the hospital after authorities said she was attacked by her friend's pit bull.

According to neighbors, Devon Mackie owns the 4-year old male pit bull Bronx, who is now quarantined after biting a 25-year old-woman in Point Loma on Wednesday.

According to San Diego County Animal Control, the victim was walking the dog when she tried to take off his leash and he bit her.

Heumbrto Monte, Mackie's neighbor, saw the woman after she was bitten.

"I see the paramedics coming and they put some stuff on her neck because she was bleeding," Monte told 10News.

Monte told 10News that Bronx is sometimes very passive, but other times is extremely aggressive. Animal Control did not have any reports on other attacks, but Mackie told them Bronx had bit another person one other time.

Monte told 10News about the attacks he could remember.

"Bruce the other neighbor ... he bit his finger one time and then Tonya was walking her dog and Bronx he [bit] that dog also," said Monte.

The woman bitten by Bronx on Wednesday is expected to be OK.

10News tried to contact Mackie, but she didn't want to speak about the matter.

After the 10-day quarantine, Bronx could be returned to Mackie or be declared dangerous. He could also be put down, 10News learned.
