Dartford pet shop dog attack leaves terrier in pool of blood, says owner

UNITED KINGDOM -- A dog owner claims her terrier was left in a pool of blood after being attacked by three dogs in a Dartford pet shop.

Yorkshire Terrier Herbie, 11, was with his owner Rebecca McGrane, 42, and her 12-year-old son James Biscoe when they walked into Pet Shop in Dartford High Street in search of chicken feed at around 1pm on August 14.

Miss McGrane says Herbie had hardly got through the door when he was mauled by a pit bull or staffie-type dog belonging to the shop owner leaving the canine screaming for his life.

If that wasn’t enough, two other dogs bounded out of the shop to join in the attack in the doorway until another shopper managed to pull them off.

Miss McGrane has taken pictures of the nasty puncture marks on Herbie’s neck and groin but says she has received no apology for what happened to her dog or any offer of help with the £400 vet bill.

The mother-of-three told News Shopper: "He was just sprung on. One of them got hold of him with no warning and he was just sort of being flung around.

"The next thing I remember a woman appeared and another two dogs rushed to join in from the back of the shop.

"My son was outside screaming and there was all this blood on him and he was standing in this pool of blood.

"There was not even a chance for Herbie to turn around and get out of the shop before this dog set on him."

Miss McGrane, who lives in Windsor Drive, Dartford, with James and his three siblings, says her son was left unable to sleep afterwards.

The Bromley Council employee said: "I ran Herbie to the vets in the end and James was in a shocking mess crying.

"We just didn’t speak to one another for a couple of hours - we were just in total shock."

The incident was reported to Kent Police who passed it on to Dartford Council where it is currently being investigated by the council’s dog warden.

No one from Pet Shop was available for comment.
