Mum bitten by dog in Colne as she protected her child

UNITED KINGDOM -- A mum needed hospital treatment after she was attacked by a rottweiler dog as she tried to protect her young child.

Her partner also suffered a cut finger in the incident as they tried to fight the dog off in Colne, near St Ives.

Now police are trying to track down the owners of the black and tan dog which had a distinctive collar made from a thick cable-tie.

The mum, a 22-year-old woman, suffered bites to her arm and which needed hospital treatment and her partner, a 30-year-old man, suffered a cut hand.

Police said the rottweiler attacked when the mother pulled her child away when she was approached by the dog.

The couple managed to fight the dog off and drove to hospital after the attack at Earith Lakes Fisheries, Home Fen Drove, on July 23. Their child was not injured in the incident.

PC Graeme White, who is investigating the attack, said: “This was a distressing incident for the family and it is fortunate none of them sustained more serious injuries.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time, or knows who the owners of this dog are, to call police.”

Anyone with information about the attack can call PC White on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
