Owner pleads no contest in pit bull attack

LOUISIANA -- The owner of a pit bull entered a plea of no contest to charges that her dog attacked an eight year old girl.

Bridgette Harper, 40, of Loranger, was scheduled to go to trial on negligent injuring charges on August 12, but changed her plea.

Harper's pit bull attacked then-eight year old Mikayja Oliver near Harper's home on April 27, 2012.  Oliver suffered multiple injuries and had to undergo several surgeries.

Harper will be sentenced on October 7, 2013.  She faces up to six months in jail.

A second woman, Natalie Newton, 21, is also facing negligent injuring charges in connection with the same incident.  Her pit bull was allegedly involved in the attack on Oliver.

Newton pled not guilty to the charge on October 15, 2012.
