WISCONSIN -- A pet sitter attacked by two dogs Saturday underwent surgery after neighbors pulled her over a fence to safety.
The 32-year-old Neenah woman, who is a Never Home Alone Pet Sitting employee, arrived at 1332 Meadow Lane about 2:30 p.m. to care for two English Bull Terriers, the Neenah Police Department said. The dogs started biting the woman’s legs and she was able to hold onto a wooden fence and scream for help.
The dogs continued to bite the woman until several neighbors pulled her over the fence into another backyard. She was taken to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah for surgery and other treatment for numerous and significant dog bites.
The dogs’ owner, also a 32-year-old Neenah resident, was called and the dogs’ veterinarian helped feed the animals tranquilizers and coax them into cages. They were taken to the Neenah Animal Shelter, where they are being quarantined for 10 days.
Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson is pursuing a declaration of “prohibited dangerous animal” for both dogs, which would mean the dogs would be put down or moved outside of the city. The owner has a right to appeal the decision.
