Pit Bull Dog Bites On 3-Year-Old Mississippi Boy′s Head, Has to Be Pried Off

MISSISSIPPI -- A 3-year-old Mississippi boy named James Summerlin had his head bitten down on by a family friend’s Pit Bull dog today.

The suddenly aggressive dog locked its powerful jaws on to the child’s head, which his mother was luckily able to pry off bare handed.  Not usually aggressive, the dog’s unprovoked attack shocked everyone.

The life-changing mauling happened just before Noon on Sunday, 18th of August. The location was outside a home at 229 Hosey Road in Magee, MS.

After the attack Summerlin was taken to  the local hospital, from which it was determined he needed specialist attention.  The young boy was then airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center after the scary event.

On arrival James had open wounds from the Pit Bulls teeth dug into his head.  Both severe lacerations and the pull back of flesh were results of the K9′s vicious behavior.

His mother, Melanie Summerlin, was at the scene of the event during the attack.  She was at the home to help jump start a friend’s car.  She says that her son was going to play on swing set when the Pitt Bull pursued and bit.

It showed no signs of aggression like growing and just snapped.   After the dog locked on her son’s head, she found supernatural strength to pull the dogs very powerful jaws apart and get James head out of its mouth.

The dog’s owner, Christy Ferguson, was shocked by the attack   She apparently felt it was a necessity to put the Pit Bull down after seeing it had a bad streak in its personality. According to the sheriff of Magee, she killed it shortly after the unprovoked attack on the 3-year-old boy.
