Seneca woman charged with cruelty to animals

NEW YORK -- A Seneca woman was charged Thursday by Ontario County sheriff’s deputies with cruelty to animals and failure to provide proper food and drink to an impounded animal.

Deputies said they responded with the Ontario County Humane Society to 3419 County Road 20 in Seneca for a report of a dog that was being kept in a wire cage on a concrete surface outside the residence.

Deputies said a 1-year-old male pit bull was found standing in the cage in its own urine in the direct sunlight and without food or water.

Deputies said Maria A. Chiarilli, 50, of the residence, was found to allegedly be the dog’s caretaker while its owner was out of state. She was issued an appearance ticket for Seneca Town Court.

The dog was seized and is being cared for at the humane society, deputies said.
