Woman charged after dog dies in hot car

SOUTH CAROLINA -- A Ware Shoals woman faces animal cruelty charges after Simpsonville police said a dog she left locked in her car died.

Police said Colie Burton, 69, left the dog in the August heat while she shopped in stores at the Fairview Corners II shopping center in Simpsonville.


Police Chief Steve Moore said the dog was left in the car for approximately two hours and was unresponsive by the time officers arrived.

Burton was charged with one count of cruelty to animals resulting in death.
