Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty Speaks Out

NEW YORK -- Three people are facing charges connected to an animal abuse in the city of Elmira.

Animal Control, fire trucks, and code enforcement responded to a home on Oak Street for a cruelty complaint earlier this week. Rose and William Seymour are each charged with eight counts of animal cruelty, among other charges. Tina Seymour is also facing licensing and vaccination charges.

Eight dogs were taken from the home, all severely malnourished. WETM 18 News spoke with Rose Seymour on Saturday. She said she won’t fight the charges.

“I’m just going to plead guilty and pay for them. My hours that I’m working now, I just can’t, ain’t got the time to take off and go do it,” said Seymour. Animal cruelty is a misdemeanor, which can carry a maximum penalty of up to a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.

Rose says she bought dog food for her husband, William, to feed the dogs. She had moved out in October 2012. We reached out to William today, but he did not want to speak with us.

Elmira Animal Control says they are not commenting on the case while the investigation is ongoing. After the dogs recover, they will be put up for adoption.
