Animal cruelty charges levied against Ada man

OKLAHOMA -- An Ada man was charged with cruelty to animals this week after police reportedly found dead and dying dogs at his residence.

Anthony Christopher Castillo, 25, was charged in Pontotoc County District Court Aug. 20 with six counts of cruelty to animals.

Ada Animal Control Officer Bill Britt responded to a residence in the 900 block of 22nd Street Aug. 19 after a utilities worker reported possible animal cruelty.

“I went to the back yard and saw three dogs on very large log chains that were alive, but very malnourished,” Britt said. “All three dogs had visible bones showing under the skin. I then located three more dogs that were deceased in the back yard that were (each) still attached to a large chain.”

Britt said the dogs only had a little dirty water and were infested with fleas. He took photos of all the dogs, which showed the dead dogs were badly decomposing.

The remaining dogs were taken to a local veterinarian for rehabilitation.
