The woman, who asked her name not be used, said Diane George’s claim the bull mastiff attacked George’s miniature schnauzer is “completely fabricated.”
While the woman admits her dog got out of the yard and was barking at George and her dog, Abby, she denies the larger animal attacked or bit the smaller canine.
She also said her dog weighs 80 lbs., and not 150 lbs. as George described.
“The dog did leave the backyard, the dog did start barking at her, the dog did go forward to her. But she was never physically attacked by the dog,” said the woman.
George said she suffered a concussion and scrapes and bruises to her elbow and knee after the mastiff knocked her to the ground.
“She fell on the ground because she was trying to pick up her dog and she fell on her own,” she said. “I guess she was scared.
“If anything, the dog was excited, he wanted to play with the little pooch, whatever she had. There was no attack.”
The woman stressed she was “a good dog owner” and was home at the time and witnessed the incident.
She also took exception to George’s characterization of the altercation as “vicious.”
“A vicious attack is when someone gets mauled, when someone gets bitten and there’s blood everywhere,” she said.
She pointed out that based on her dog’s strength, if it had bitten the smaller animal it would have “shredded that thing to pieces.”
She confirmed receiving a fine from bylaw officers.
“That’s because of her story,” she said of George.
“Bylaw, they’re not officers, they just go by what they’re told.”
George said Monday she is “furious” that the dog’s owner would dispute her story and repeated her version of events.
While both sides in the dispute say a fine was issued against the dog’s owner, the city’s bylaw department was mum on the fine.
“As this matter is still under investigation, Bylaw and Regulatory Services is not in a position to provide further details,” wrote department spokesperson Christine Hartig.
The woman said she would take action against the fine.
“Am I going to go to court and fight that ticket? Absolutely.”
