Letter: Animal control may not help with injured dog

NEVADA -- If you were missing a German shepherd mixed breed dog recently in the Spring Creek area, he/she was found on Lawndale Drive Thursday night and was hurt.

I called animal control to have the dog picked up and get treatment for the dog’s laceration. The animal control officer did not attempt to capture the dog, her advice was to run the dog out of our yard and follow the dog home. This did not work and the dog came back again and I called animal control once again.

The dog was very scared and would not come to the officer and ran away. We saw the dog several more times over the weekend but the dog would not come in our yard again. We left food and water for the animal.

Think twice before you call animal control to have a dog picked up. They may not do anything for the animal.

I thought the job of an animal control officer was to pick up the stray dog, especially when it is hurt. I feel very sad for this dog and its owner.
