Officers shoot dogs during pit bull attack

OHIO -- Springfield Police officers shot and killed two pit bulls Wednesday afternoon that were reportedly attacking another dog and its owner.

Police responded to the 1600 block of Catawba Avenue just after noon because a woman was reportedly pinned down by the pit bull attack.

Springfield Police Chief Stephen Moody said two pit bulls were attacking a Chihuahua outside of a home on that street and when the Chihuahua's owner attempted to intervene she was pushed down.

She was not injured. The Chihuahua was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic for treatment.
