PD: Neighbor shooting pit bull justified

VIRGINIA -- A Suffolk man shot an aggressive pit bull Wednesday evening.

Diana Klink with Suffolk Police said a man was playing with his two young children in his fenced-in yard around 6:30 p.m. when two pit bulls began fighting and tried to break through the fence.

The dogs knocked a board loose in the fence and the man tried spraying the dogs away with a hose. When the pit bulls continued to act aggressively, the man shot one of them.

Officers responded to the scene after someone called in and reported a dog had been shot. When police arrived and investigated the incident, they determined the shooting was justified, according to Klink.

Klink said the injured dog was later euthanized. It belonged to 34-year-old Danelle Hargrove of the 300 block of Collier Crescent.
