Pit bull escapes from yard, attacks two dogs on leashes

MICHIGAN -- A woman walking her two dogs in the 3000 block of 17th Street told police the dogs were attacked by a pit bull that escaped from a yard shortly after 9 p.m. Sept. 1.

An officer was sent to the scene after the caller twice dialed 911 and asked for police, but did not provide any other information.

The officer arrived to find a 50-year-old resident visibly upset. The woman said she was walking her two leashed dogs when a pit bull charged from a backyard and attacked her dogs. She immediately screamed for help and a man came running to her aid.

She told police a man from inside the house where the dog came from began yelling at her, using vulgar language, and blamed her for his dog attacking her dogs.

According to the woman, a pregnant female then came out of the same house and was tripped by one of the woman’s dogs’ leashes, causing her to fall to the ground.

The officer spoke with the man who identified himself as the owner of the attacking dog. He said he accidentally left the gate open and his dog got out. He said he heard a woman screaming about her dogs so he ran out to assist.

While attempting to secure his dog, the man said the woman called his 12-year-old daughter a vulgar name, which angered him, so he yelled at her.

A police report does not indicate there were major injuries in the incident.
