Selma Man Arrested For Felony Animal Cruelty

NORTH CAROLINA -- A man wanted by Selma Police on animal cruelty charges was arrested by Smithfield Police on Sunday.


Michael James Vann Torres, 23, of Millbrook Street, Selma had been wanted since Wednesday night when a an alleged witness walking on Millbrook Street at Lizzie Street reportedly saw Torres slam a cat to the ground, then, using shoe laces, make a noose and hang a cat and a kitten over a stop sign at the intersection.

The cats were dead when police arrived.

 Torres was located on Finney Drive in Smithfield on Sunday and served with two felony animal cruelty warrants.  He was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $40,000 bond.

 Police have not been able to determine any type of motive for the alleged animal cruelty.
