Jessie was brought into the eastside shelter in late September after he was discovered along Rio Bravo in the South Valley. The Chihuahua's right eye socket was empty, his left eye injured. Animal Welfare staff believe he might have been attacked by another dog.
"He spent a few days in the shelter before I came around and found him," Felicia Leija, an Animal Welfare veterinary assistant and Jessie's foster mom, said. "I fell in love with him."
Jessie had to have his remaining eye removed earlier this month. Leija and her other pets have been helping Jessie adapt to life without vision.

"Just because they don't have eyes, doesn't mean they're disabled," Leija said.
Leija said other than occasionally bumping into a wall, Jessie gets around fine by himself. Now he needs a new family to take him home.
"It's going to be hard, but I know when he gets a home it's going to be the right one," Leija said.
