State Police said a horse in Maria Ludwig Hayes's care was euthanized in February. A necropsy done by New Bolton determined the horse's death was from "emaciation with no cause other than malnutrition found."

Cpl. Corey Wetzel said the investigation was opened after authorities were called by a veterinarian.
He says the horse was owned by one of the stable's boarders who saved the animal from the kill pen several months prior. Wetzel wouldn't go into additional details citing the pending case.
Hayes operates the boarding stable, Frosty Oaks Stables, in Columbia County. She is cited with 5 counts of animal cruelty.
Four additional horses were also found suffering from malnutrition, according to authorities. Three of the surviving horses involved in the case are boarders' horses, and one is owned by Hayes, according to Wetzel.

We contacted Hayes who said she just received the citations. "I would rather not comment at this time until I have spoken with an attorney."
If Hayes is found guilty of the offenses she could face fines and imprisonment.
Frosty Oaks Stables advertises many services including breeding ponies and Cleveland Bay Sporthorses. The farm also offers riding lessons and boarding horses.
