Cat spray-painted orange dies; Reward offered for info leading to arrest

PENNSYLVANIA -- A cat that was found spray-painted in a Mercer County neighborhood has died, and police are searching to find those responsible.

A family in Hermitage told authorities they had been feeding the cat for several months, and they were shocked when it showed up at their door one day painted bright orange.

The cat was immediately taken to a vet’s office, but died a short time later.

Humane officers believe fumes from the spray paint caused the animal’s death.

A reward, thanks to private donations, of $800 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

“I’m really proud of the community we have in Mercer County. There are a lot of people out there willing to help,” Mercer County Humane Officer Tom Swartz said.

Police said the crime is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
