WISCONSIN -- The De Pere Police Department says a dog attacked an officer Tuesday morning, forcing the officer to shoot at the animal.
At about 6:50 a.m., the officer was on patrol when he noticed a suspicious vehicle parked at the Dog Park on Biotech Way. The officer believed the vehicle had been parked their overnight and he went into the park to find the vehicle's owner.
As the officer was walking on a trail, a dog charged at him in "an aggressive manner," according to police. Police say the officer backed away, but soon started feeling pain in his ankles and saw a second dog biting him.
He was able to throw the dog off him, but it charged the officer and jumped near his face and tried to bite him again, according to police. That's when the officer fired his weapon, grazing the dog in the cheek.
The animals both ran off, and the owner of the dogs was found in the park.
The officer suffered a minor injury from the bite to his ankle, according to police.
Police say the dog that attacked the officer was treated by a vet for a graze wound.
The police department says they are not releasing any more information at this time.
