Florida: Francisco Velasquez, 36, tortured his girlfriend's pet rabbits to death

FLORIDA -- Francisco Velasquez, 36, of the 6900 block of 11th Avenue East, Palmetto, angered by an argument with his girlfriend, pulled two of her pet rabbits out of their cages and killed them with his fists, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

After killing the rabbits, Velasquez reportedly said: “This is what I’m about and more.”


Velasquez was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals along with a count of domestic battery for pushing his girlfriend during their dispute, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The incidents occurred at 9:55 a.m. Monday at the 11th Avenue East address.

Velasquez was also charged with theft after authorities found a stolen window air conditioning unit at his residence, the report states. The window air conditioner was from a theft in the 1000 block of 72nd Street Court East, Palmetto, the report indicates.

Velasquez was in the Manatee County jail Tuesday in lieu of a $30,000 bond, according to the Manatee County jail website.
