Upstate NY man charged with animal cruelty

NEW YORK -- A 65-year-old upstate New York man is facing animal cruelty charges after baiting and trapping four cats belonging to a neighbor.

Troopers arrested Donald Brown of Cobleskill on four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. A state police investigation revealed that Brown committed the crime approximately two weeks ago.

Troopers did not indicate the current status of the cats or how seriously they were harmed.

Brown was arraigned in Cobleskill Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He's due back in court at a later date.

A charge of aggravated cruelty to animals is a felony and involves killing or intentionally causing extreme physical pain, or actions that were carried out in a manner that was especially depraved or sadistic.
